Decision Notes & Practical Cases

Short analyses of situations where strategy, capital and execution do not get stuck because of a lack of analysis, but because the decision remains implicit.

This page contains short observations and practical reflections on decision-making in organizations. The notes focus on situations where strategy, governance, investment and execution come together under uncertainty.

The aim is not to add more analysis, but to make visible what actually needs to be decided — and which structure is required before a board, CFO or investment committee can decide.

Three types of decision friction

Strategy, investment and execution rarely get stuck for one single reason. Often, analysis exists, but the decision is not yet explicit or decision-ready.

These Decision Notes are structured around three recurring situations: an implicit decision, a business case that is not yet approval-ready, or value creation that gets stuck between stakeholders.

Decision Clarity

Why Decisions Remain Stuck

Even when reports, models and scenarios are available, decisions can remain stuck because the real choice has not been made explicit.

What must actually be decided?

For situations where analysis is available, but the real choice remains implicit. The note makes visible what must be decided, by whom, on what basis and which risks remain unnamed.

Business Case Readiness

From Meeting Loop to Decision Memo

A sample case showing how a recurring management discussion was translated into a clear decision structure.

Is this case approval ready?

For business cases and investments that appear financially logical, but are not yet decision-ready for CFO, board or investment committee approval. The focus is on assumptions, risks, scenarios and executability.

Cross-Silo Value Creation

Where is value leaking?

For situations where strategy appears clear, but value creation gets stuck between finance, operations, commerce, governance or external stakeholders.

Decision Clarity
Many decisions keep hanging not because of a lack of information, but because the real choice has not yet been made explicit.
